Victoria Beach – June 9, 2007

We weren’t planning to spend the day at Victoria Beach, as it was quite busy for me in the upcoming week .. (deadline for self-employed personal tax returns) – but I borrowed my folks’ MiniVan and filled it up with some goodies before the restriction starts for parking.

I brought out:

* ONE LARGE BBQ – Santa Fe “Fiesta” model, from Walmart ..
* TWO Inflatable Kayaks – from Canadian Tire, with 2 Kayak paddles
* TWO Lounge Chairs from Walmart..
* A Floating Beach Chair cased in Styrofoam from Yvonne’s friend!

I was just going to drop it off, but Yvonne wanted to jog – so I assembled the BBQ. Can you believe it? At the last minute – the part to attach to the propane tank was broken, and it didn’t work. We ended up putting it all back into the MiniVan, fully assembled, with the large box it came in, with all the wrappings and packaging.

On the way back into town, we went straight to the Walmart store and exchanged it for a brand new one. It took about 30 minutes in total – we found a really helpful guy and a flatbed wheeler who sped things up immensely! We even took that old superheavy 1970’s TV that didn’t work into town, and asked him to junk it and he hauled it away for us.

So – Now I had another BBQ (in a HUGE Box sitting in my living room for another week)

Victoria Beach Revisited

It’s that time of the year, and we went to the cottage on Sunday for the day – it was 27c and no clouds.

* My left forearm is totally sunburt
* My forehead and nose it as red as a rose
* As for the rest of my body .. some color with a “Farmer’s Tan

And to quote Maxwell Smart from the famed TV show “Get Smart” …

Loving it.

Karen & Warren et all were out there Saturday and Sunday and did most of the work cutting grass and raking and opening up the cottage .. The TV blew up last year during an electrical storm (we believe) and we agreed that he would pick up a cheap 20″ TV from Wal-Mart or Canadian Tire and a cheap DVD Player. This week, I will be picking up a new BBQ to compensate difference. That old one not only SUCKS .. there was only 1 place where the propane was shooting out .. it was quite a challenge to BBQ anything (although not impossible). We just figured – enough was enough .. quit complaining about it and do something about it.

Should be a nice warm Summer! While I’m getting the new BBQ .. I will be sourcing some cheap Kayaks .. they look like fun 🙂

Half A Year Later ..

Well .. on October 17, 2006 it was my folks 50th Wedding Anniversary and I took tons of photos. Two other people took pictures too, and it took until mid-January 2007 to get them in my possession.

My how time flies! Because, it was finally on my ToDo list and I cleared it … I took the combined 163 photos and tried for the first time Wal-Mart’s 1-Hour Photo place in the local Unicity branch, at 19cents CDN each. All and all it wasn’t too bad experience getting the pictures printed in 1 hour.

Of course – I took about 90 pictures myself, and my camera sucks. I would have been only able to take 19-20 or so pictures at High quality (2048 x something) and the other two amateur photographer’s camera were capable of taking 3100 x something … So, the decision was made at the time to take as many pictures at the lower DPI (or slightly above Web Quality) and see everything, rather than just a few choice pictures.

It was an easy decision – then! Now .. looking at the pictures, which don’t get me wrong – it’s not THAT bad … but you can definitely tell the high DPI quality pictures from the other two cameras than from mine.

Well .. you can see for yourself .. All of my pictures started with PA…… the other two pictures started with IMG_ .. or 001_01.. etc

I thought it would be a complimentary Mother’s Day Gift to bring them along next Sunday.

We Went To The Festival Du Voyageur 2007 Yesterday

We spent the day at the Festival du Voyageur Saturday February 17, 2007

We basically stayed at the Festival Site at Fort Gibraltar

And, Here Are The Pictures That I took .. in the order that I took them. Enjoy

Saturday February 17, 2007 … we got there around 10:30’ish am and the temperature was about -18c with a little wind chill, giving it to about -25c .. but, by afternoon it started to warm up to about -12c. Becuase we were mostly going to be outside, we wore two pairs of socks, long underwear, 2 shirts or a sweater and as many clothes needed to be warm! It was HARTandYVONNE … WARRENandKAREN .. BAILEYandCALLIE and Yvonne’s dad HERB

This is the entrance to the site where Festival du Voyageur 2007 was .. at Fort Gibraltar

Oops! Right! We have to pay to get in .. it was $12.00 per person. There was a kerfuffle, because after WE paid, we found out HERB paid for everybody

These are all snow scultpures outside you will see .. but this Canoe was the biggest I think

We must have been going to slow, as Yvonne decides to scout ahead of us

Wait! Wait! Slow Down! I should be taking more pictures of these Snow Sculptures, right?

Inside the Fort Gibraltar itself, to the Left

Each hut was unique to Voyageur lifestyle .. this was in the Fur Trading Hut

What the .. there are Horse Rides here too?

Herb and Warren coming out of the Prison Tower, on top the back lookout (and nice view of Winnipeg in background)

Back side of the Fort on top of the Lookout, looking over to the Left Side

Hi Yvonne! ~waving

French CBC were there, and I could have been on TV but, opted out .. so I just took a picture of them interviewing other people

Horsie Rides! I want one! I want one! Who wants to go with me?

Nice looking horses

Meet Romeo (R) & King (L). Yvonne, Hart, Bailey & Callie went on a Sleigh Ride. The handler kept saying ~Easy Fellows .. Walk. They wanted to run!

We had to make our own Maple Candy Cones .. they pour Hot Maple sugar syrop on a bed of snow ice and attach a popsicle stick Mmmm

Another Snow Ice Sculpture

Another Snow Ice Sculpture

Another Snow Ice Sculpture

Another Snow Ice Sculpture but with Yvonne and HART in the frame this time

Another Snow Ice Sculpture but with HERB doing his Moose Impersonation

They have this ICE TOWER where people can rope climb it with those metal spike boots and axes .. we just missed a climber though when I took this pic

And finally, we went to Perkins afterwards and this was my meal - the Steak Scrambler with Rye Toast and Peanut Butter and some fresh fruit and coffee
